Whether looking to in tropical Queensland or five-seasons-in-one-day Victoria, home buyers across Australia have one thing in common  most would love their own pool. 

According to realestate.com.au/buy, these are the five most searched-for terms.

1. Pool

A worthy winner. Well, when the sun is out and the temperature soars, a dip in a pool (inflatable swan/avocado/unicorn optional) in your own backyard is basically the epitome of living the Aussie dream right?

2. Granny flat

As is having your elderly (or unable-to-fly-the nest young) relatives living with you if the second most popular search is anything to go by.

The rise in the popularity of granny flats in Australia is not only heart-warming in regards to families pulling together, it also indicates that home buyers in this country are increasingly savvy about the benefits of having a small secondary dwelling in terms of potential income and boosted value.

3. Waterfront

With this country’s plethora of stunning coastlines, gorgeous beaches, rivers and lakes – as well as a nationwide love of water sports – it’s unsurprising that a huge number of people living here want to buy somewhere near water in some form.

4. Views

It seems we’re pretty partial to a pretty outlook, too. Views encompassing city, coast or countryside are important to home buyers in this country, which makes total sense considering how spectacular much of this country’s natural scenery is. Not forgetting the utterly breathtaking sunrises and sunsets many parts of Australia enjoy on a daily basis – who wouldn’t want a piece of that?

5. Beach

And last but by no means least, drum roll…’beach’ makes the top five, which is no big shock considering the cornucopia of ridiculously idyllic beaches dotted across the whole of Australia.

So that’s it folks, our five most searched-for real estate terms between 1 January and 31 August 2017 are both illuminating and reassuringly predictable. We love our pools, grannies, water, views and the beach: a fabulous five right there.
