Rainstorm destroys property worth N10m in Abia health college

ABA— worth over N10 million has been destroyed by rainstorm at Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba.

Worst hit are the institution’s ICT and resource centre, bursary department, physics laboratories, overhead tanks supplying water to the hostels and offices, female hostel A, Corpers’ Lodge and students’ recreation centre.

In an interview with Vanguard, Rector of the institution, Prof. Chidi Ezeama, who thanked God that no life was lost, lamented the extent of damage at the ICT and resource centre where computer sets and electrical installations were submerged, leading to power outage.

He appealed to the state government and public spirited individuals to assist the institution with computer sets as well as repair the damaged buildings and equipment as the students were writing their examinations.

Ezeama disclosed that the management had provided alternative accommodation to the affected corps members and students to enable them focus on the ongoing examinations.

Acting Director of ICT at the institution, Mr. Obasi Onwuchekwa, and Captain, Hostel A, Miss Maryann Nmeribe, called for total renovation of the facilities and provision of computer sets to boost academic activities at the institution.

Chairman, Governing Council of the school, Mr Chris Eze, promised to work with his members to address the situation as well as draw the attention of the state government to the urgent need to overhaul the school.
