Nigerian Prisons plans Imo headquarters

In meeting with its office accommodation challenges, the authorities of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), have move to build an ultra modern administrative headquarters will be sited in Okwu, Umuoma – Nekede, Owerri North Local Council of Imo State.

The Assistant Comptroller General of the service in Imo State, Alloy Uchenwa, who disclosed this during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the host community, said the service has secured 38.7 hectares of land after encroachment by some persons and group.

He told the six- man delegation led by the Chairman of Okwu Improvement Union, Okechukwu Opara, that the Prisons authorities were grateful to them for approving the acquisition of the land .

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Opara, said they were sent by the entire community to convey their support and cooperation for the proposed administrative headquarters.

Opara, said the legality of the land was not in question, noting that the resolve of the Federal Government to site the project would benefit the community and the state too.

The youths leader, Gabriel Kamalu, also endorsed the project.’’We, the youth wing of the community will not fold our hands and watch a golden opportunity of developing our land and gainful employment pass us by. The youths are solidly behind you and would protect the land.’’
Present at the visit were officials of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and NPS’s legal unit.
