The World Trademark Review, an international source of news for trademark professionals, has named the National Association of REALTORS®’ Legal Affairs department as its not-for-profit legal team of the year. NAR Associate Counsel Chloe Hecht also was recognized as a top trademark lawyer by WTR.

The annual WTR Industry Awards judge nominees based on their expertise, innovation, active enforcement of trademark law, global attitude towards brand expansion and protection, and other attributes. The win designates NAR and Hecht as representative of the “best in class” when it comes to trademark management, according to WTR.

NAR General Counsel Katherine Johnson credited the work of other NAR departments as being instrumental in the ongoing effort to protect the ® trademark.

Use REALTOR® Responsibly: Trademark Guidelines

“Protecting our marks is an association-wide activity,” Johnson said. “In our communications, our promotions, our consumer outreach, and our meetings with our global partners, we constantly reinforce our trademarks. So the legal team shares this responsibility—and this award—with the entire REALTOR® family, including our 1.2 million members.”
