Over 750 illegal shanties and some developed property risks demolition by the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCTA) for violating safety standards.
Other property slated for demolition includes the Lugbe FHA Farm Market, which will pave way for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Diamond Acres Estate that is directly sitting on Ring Road 4, a major interchange, as well as the M&D Acres Estate.
The Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Umar Shuaibu made this known to journalists in Abuja while speaking on new moves to clean up the territory.
He said: “In continuation of the sanitization of the Federal Capital City, the AMMC visited Lugbe and found out that no fewer than 750 illegal shanties were built directly under the high tension in Tudun Wada Peace Village, all such structures under the electrify facility are to be removed; including those that breach the legally permitted 30 metres proximity to the high tension,
Shuaibu said that the demolition have to take place in public interest, especially when safety of lives are involved but advised estate developers to always approach the Department of Development Control for necessary approvals so that issues to stop illegal allocation to developers.
Also speaking, the Director of Development Control, Galadima Muktar said it is unfortunate that despite the official marking of the structures to halt further development work , many of the developers still went ahead went to build.
