It\u2019s time to move out of your rental. You\u2019ve hired a mover, started packing and already scoped out the nearest shops to your new place.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But before you run out the door and leave the keys behind, there are a few important tasks to tick off\u2026<\/p>\n

Confirm your notice period<\/h2>\n

Avoid paying rent in two places by ensuring you give the proper notice period. This can be found on your lease, or you can contact your landlord or agent direct.<\/p>\n

Inform your suppliers<\/h2>\n

Contact all of your suppliers to ensure they have your new address. Examples of who you may need to contact include your bank(s), your insurance provider, your energy<\/a> supplier and your internet supplier.<\/p>\n

Speak with your insurance provider<\/h2>\n

If you have contents insurance, you\u2019ll need to notify your insurance provider about your change of address. You should also inform them of any other changes in circumstances, for example if you\u2019ll be walking to work from your new place or if you\u2019ll be parking your car in a garage. These factors may help you save on your car insurance premium.<\/p>\n

Forward your mail<\/h2>\n

The first thing you should do here is to have your mail forwarded while you notify the appropriate parties of your change of address.<\/p>\n

Despite your best attempt to notify others about your change of address, the odd letter may still arrive for you at your old rental from time to time. Leave your forwarding address with your landlord or agent so that any incorrectly addressed mail reaches you safely.<\/p>\n

Follow the appropriate bond process<\/h2>\n

Getting your full bond back is a matter of following the correct process as outlined in your lease. This includes giving the appropriate notice, cleaning satisfactorily and repairing any damage that has occurred since you took up residency.<\/p>\n

Take final meter readings<\/h2>\n

Take final meter readings on the day that you move out and promptly notify your suppliers to ensure you aren\u2019t charged for usage once you\u2019re gone.<\/p>\n

Take lots of photos<\/h2>\n

Throughout this entire process, remember to take photos of everything in case there are any disputes after you leave.<\/p>\n
