REALTORS\u00ae who give back are earning kudos by the industry for their charitable efforts within their communities and beyond. REALTOR\u00ae Magazine announced Wednesday the five winners to its 2017 Good Neighbors program.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s amazing how the passion of this year\u2019s Good Neighbor Award winners spurs a ripple effect of generosity among others,\u201d says William E. Brown, National Association of REALTORS\u00ae president. \u201cIn addition to devoting thousands of personal volunteer hours and recruiting thousands of volunteer hours from others, this year’s five winners have raised and donated more than $39 million to support their communities.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Each of the five winners will receive a $10,000 grant for their cause. They will also be featured in the November\/December issue of REALTOR\u00ae Magazine and will receive crystal trophies in a presentation on Nov. 4 during the 2017 REALTORS\u00ae Conference & Expo in Chicago.<\/p>\n

The 2017 Good Neighbor Award winners are:<\/p>\n

Sal Dimiceli, Lake Geneva Area Realty, Lake Geneva, Wis., founder of The Time Is Now To Help\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dimiceli founded a\u00a0nonprofit to\u00a0ease the suffering of people living in poverty. He\u00a0personally\u00a0responds to requests for help by providing financial\u00a0counseling and addressing individual needs, whether it’s\u00a0paying overdue rent to prevent eviction or providing emergency food assistance, transportation,\u00a0or child\u00a0care so a person can hold a job. \"\"Bryson Garbett, Garbett Homes, Salt Lake City, Utah, founder of Foundation Escalera<\/strong><\/p>\n

Garbett founded a nonprofit\u00a0that provides access to education to children in the rural Chiapas region of Mexico. In 18 years, his organization — which has built 177 classrooms and provides high school scholarships — has helped nearly 100,000 students. Read his story.<\/p>\n

\"\"Howard W. \u201cHoddy\u201d Hanna, III, Howard Hanna Real Estate<\/a> Services, Pittsburgh, Pa., for Howard Hanna Children\u2019s Free Care Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hanna leads a nonprofit that donates millions to\u00a0children\u2019s hospitals to fund treatment for children without insurance<\/a> or whose treatment isn\u2019t\u00a0covered by insurance.\u00a0Since 1987, Hanna and his company\u2019s 9,000 real estate professionals in eight states have raised and donated more than $14 million.\u00a0Read his story.<\/p>\n

\"\"Louise McLean, RE\/MAX Solutions, Merritt Island, Fla., founder of Space Coast Association of REALTORS\u00ae Charitable Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n

McLean founded a nonprofit to support the more than 2,200 homeless\u00a0children\u00a0in\u00a0Florida\u2019s\u00a0Brevard County with necessities such as food,\u00a0clothing,\u00a0school supplies, glasses, and\u00a0toiletries. They also provide nonessentials like\u00a0sports equipment, band instruments, and even college scholarships, allowing children to further their education.\u00a0Read her story.<\/p>\n

\"\"Kay Wilson-Bolton, Century 21 Troop Real Estate, Santa Paula, Calif., founder of SPIRIT of Santa Paula\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wilson-Bolton\u00a0founded Many Meals, which feeds up to 600 people a hot meal every Wednesday. She also distributes 30,000\u00a0pounds\u00a0of\u00a0food per month\u00a0through\u00a0a food bank and,\u00a0as an ordained chaplain, runs a reception center behind her real estate office where she counsels people in need.\u00a0Read her story.<\/p>\n
