Mendenhall delivered an emotional speech that both honored and recalled the passion of her father, 2001 NAR President Richard Mendenhall, and she implored REALTORS\u00ae to take ownership of ensuring that they remain an essential part of the consumer experience in <a href=\"https:\/\/amazingproperty.com.ng\/blog\/property-center-nigeria\/\">real estate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt becomes overwhelming when you look at the headlines and you see Amazon is playing in real estate. &#8230; You see a headline that says the next broker is going to be artificial intelligence. &#8230; And now Facebook has just changed your advertising marketing campaign,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>And while NAR\u2019s strategic priorities for 2018 may seem familiar, she added, the need to act on them in the face of unrelenting technological, demographic, and political change is urgent. A sixth-generation practitioner, Mendenhall said REALTORS\u00ae would need to work collaboratively and creatively like never before to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Define measurable increases in professionalism.<\/li>\n<li>Increase influence in an uncertain legislative, regulatory, and political environment.<\/li>\n<li>Take management of real estate data to the next level.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the role of the REALTOR\u00ae as essential to the consumer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to come up with better solutions, and we\u2019re going to have to come up with better ideas,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve got the jobs of 1.2 million people on our hands. It can be overwhelming. There are a lot of issues, and they are not easy. The answers are not necessarily here in this room, but they\u2019re there for us to find. And we will find them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ain\u2019t your daddy\u2019s association anymore,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd my daddy\u2019s here, and I think he would agree with me. It\u2019s time. We\u2019ve got to own it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goldberg, making his first extended public remarks since taking over as NAR CEO on Aug. 1, revealed several specifics for doing just that. His most vital priority, he said, is to change the perception that NAR is disconnected from the practical concerns of REALTORS\u00ae and of the industry. \u201cWhile this is a complete misconception, as CEO, I\u2019m going to own it,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m ready to take a sledgehammer and knock down the \u2018ivory tower\u2019 facade.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll do that, he said, by listening more than talking, making sure NAR executives are engaged and accountable for member satisfaction, and re-engineering the association into an outside-in organization\u2014one that\u2019s built around the member\u2019s experience. \u201cI am ready and eager to work with leadership to make tough decisions and determine solutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Building on the success of NAR\u2019s investment arm, Second Century Ventures, and its REach accelerator program for tech startups, one of Goldberg\u2019s first changes will be the creation of a new strategic business and technology group. \u201cWe\u2019re going to build a strategic think tank. We will convene world-class business experts\u2014the best minds from within and outside the industry\u2014to develop specific action plans and countermeasures to mitigate emerging threats to organized real estate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t dread disruption,\u201d he said. \u201cWe must drive it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But dramatic structural and operational changes won\u2019t be accompanied by a change in mission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Association of REALTORS\u00ae\u2019 core purpose remains to help our members become more profitable and successful. We will continue to strive to be the collective force influencing and shaping the real estate industry.
