The Guardian gathered that the gully in Uzebba area is measuring between about 50ft deep and 35ft and eight houses<\/a> have been destroyed in the area. There are other gullies \u200ein Iruekpen and some parts of the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

No\u200e fewer than seven communities in Iluleha, near Sabongida-Ora, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo are under threat of gully erosion that have eaten deep into the only road that linked the community with the rest of the state.<\/p>\n

The Guardian gathered that the gully in Uzebba area is measuring between about 50ft deep and 35ft and eight houses have been destroyed in the area. There are other gullies \u200ein Iruekpen and some parts of the state.<\/p>\n

The seven affected communities included Ikpeyan, Oromen, Okeagho, Avbioghola, Ivbiodohen, Oah and Iloje and may soon be cut-off from the main town of Uzebba, as Okpuje road that linked the communities have been almost eroded by the erosion.<\/p>\n

\nThe traditional head of Iluleha, Chief Sam Dogo, appealed for quick intervention from the State Government.While describing the erosion as menace that have threatened the existence of his people, he noted that they now leave in fear each time it rains.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cAs I worry over the only link road to these communities, I am particularly worried about the survival of my people, especially those whose houses are close to the erosion area.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs it were, we have had few houses already consumed by the ravaging gully. There have been no live lost, but there is however need to prevent that.\u201cThat is why are appealing to the government to come to our aid. As a people, we have tried in our own little way to prevent the gully from spreading, but it has gone beyond us now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some resident of the communities described the situation as pathetic as some people\u2019s property has been destroyed by the gully.A resident, Nelson Asekhame, said houses built with year of hard work by some of them are now gone because of the erosion menace.<\/p>\n

Another resident, Mr Isikpoje Allohan, who said out of fear, some people have relocated to a more safer community, said he expected that more people would leave as the raining season sets in.<\/p>\n
