Jonathan Smoke, realtor<\/a>.com\u00ae\u2019s first chief economist, has stepped down after nearly three years as one of the leading voices of real estate<\/a> within the industry. Realtor.com\u00ae is now actively on the hunt for a new chief economist.<\/p>\n

After 21 years in the housing<\/a> industry, Smoke left the real estate business<\/a> last month to take a position in the automotive business. He is now serving as chief economist for Cox Automotive, an auto industry firm that houses<\/a> the brands Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book, Dealer.com, among others. Smoke had served as chief economist of Hanley Wood<\/a>, a media and market intelligence company, prior to joining realtor.com\u00ae. He also served in several roles at Beazer Homes, including senior vice president of strategy and innovation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve spent my career working with data to improve the understanding of market trends and how demand and supply come together in purchases that represent the largest investors most consumers make,\u201d Smoke says.<\/p>\n
