Affordability issues may be keeping some first-time buyers on the sidelines\u2014the percentage of homes purchased by this group has fallen to 32 percent, which is 8 percentage points below the historical norm, according to the National Association of REALTORS\u00ae\u2014but in some cities, homeownership is more accessible to millennials.<\/p>\n\n

In its third annual study, financial website SmartAsset.com released its findings for 2017’s best cities for first-time home buyers. To identify the cities, SmartAsset culled data from places with a minimum population of 300,000 and ranked them across seven key factors, including average value per square foot, loan<\/a> funding<\/a> rate, and market volatility.<\/p>\n\n

Texas had the most cities in the top 25 on SmartAsset’s list. The state is home to many mortgage<\/a> lenders<\/a>, and its local housing<\/a> markets are less volatile than other states, researchers note. The following are SmartAsset’s top 11 cities for first-time home buyers:<\/p>\n\n

  1. Pittsburgh<\/li>\n\t
  2. Oklahoma City<\/li>\n\t
  3. Omaha, Neb.<\/li>\n\t
  4. Indianapolis<\/li>\n\t
  5. Tulsa, Okla.<\/li>\n\t
  6. San Antonio<\/li>\n\t
  7. Houston<\/li>\n\t
  8. Colorado Springs, Colo.<\/li>\n\t
  9. Fort Worth, Texas<\/li>\n\t
  10. Louisville, Ky.<\/li>\n\t
  11. Wichita, Kan.<\/li>\n<\/ol>
