ABAKALIKI—NO fewer than 2,000 indigenes of Izzi Local Government Area were, weekend, displaced following a protracted land dispute between the people of Oferekpe Enyigba and Enyibichiri in Izzi and Ikwo Local Government Areas respectively, of Ebonyi State.
Vanguard reliably gathered that it was the people of Enyibichiri in Ikwo Local Government Area that staged the attack against their neighbours, Oferekpe Enyigba of Izzi Local Government Area.
The land dispute which had been on since the tenure of the last administration in the state also led to the massive destruction of houses, property, food items among others, worth millions of naira.
The displaced persons are said to be camped at different locations in the affected community while awaiting both state and local government assistance.
In a chat with newsmen, Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Mr. Peter Nwogba, said security personnel had already been stationed at the troubled area to maintain peace and order in the area.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jude Madu said both police and army were fully mobilized to the affected community to forestall further break down of law and order.
He described the level of destruction in the area as unfortunate adding that the command will not leave any stone unturned until peace returns to the affected communities.
Recall that similar destruction also took place on 9th January at Azuoffida community in Izzi LGA when the people of Obubura in Cross River state allegedly attacked their Ebonyi counterpart in what most persons have described as a tragic scenario.
