The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has flagged off rehabilitation works of the Sobi water works valued at about N472million.
The works on the dam when completed would lead to the production of two million gallons of water daily. The contract was awarded to Messrs Deco Engineering Construction Limited.
The dam, which was constructed about three decades ago is expected to boost water supply to some communities in Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Moro Local Government Areas of the state including the Sobi Cantonment of the Nigerian Army.
Speaking at the ceremony the Director General of Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) constituency office Alhaji Musa Abdulahi who represented Saraki at the event the reconstruction job apart from it being the benefits of democracy it would also improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the citizens.
He charged the beneficiaries to guard the project and cooperate effectively with those assigned for the rehabilitation.
The waterworks, which had been operating on 25 per cent efficiency in the last 15 years has a completion period of six months.
Shortly before the project was handed over to the contractor by Aremu Adeniyi , an engineer, the Managing Director of Lower Niger River Basin, disclosed that Saraki is committed to the welfare of his constituents and ready to bring an end to problems arising from the quality and quantity of water supply through the rehabilitation of old and construction of new surface and underground waterworks.
